Denis Upshon

| Position | 3rd Cornet |
| Nickname | Seamus from Planet of the Apes |
| When/How I started banding | Interested in band music from age 11. I first heard a brass band at a football match at Dean Court. Went to Oakmead School for boys 1965-70 where they had a brass band. I started to learn the cornet, taught by Courtney Bosanko. Progressed through Learners and Junior Band to the Senior Band in 1968. Then joined adult bands, Bournemouth Royal Artillery Association Band 1968-1986, Ferndown Brass 1986-1989, Ringwood and Burley 1989-2009. |
| Best-ever banding moment | Qualifying in the fourth section at Torquay for the National Finals at Harrogate (2009) |
| Worst-ever/most embarrassing banding moment | Being rough at my own 50th birthday dinner and going home an hour early. Coming in very loud for a quiet entry in a concert. Playing the Last Post in church as my trousers started to slip down! |
| When I joined Downton Band | 2009 |
| Favourite band piece | Rhapsody in Brass |
| Least favourite band piece | Chitty Chity Bang Bag |
| Anything else... | I enjoy a good beer, and curry nights. I had hair when I started playing, now I have none. Been playing for 44 years and have helped most bands in the area for concerts. |
