Marriage of the Year (2003)
We saw it – we were never sure we would – now we believe it!
“The Fredster is wed sir” was the cry as Andrew “Fred” Faulkner, our esteemed solo euphonium, finally did the honorable deed in marrying horn player Rachael Walter – the bands sweetheart – on Saturday 9th August 2003.
The happy couple created the perfect union on Saturday in Downton. Onlookers were amazed and inspired by their enthusiastic and emotional concert – their public coming together in the hallowed arena of St. Lawrence’s Church. Deep passions were expressed and, possibly due to it being the hottest day of the year so far, much perspiration was in evidence. Just a few minutes earlier to this Fred and Rachael had exchanged rings under the shadow of the altar in the church! Small children and pensioners were whisked from the graveyard in haste…
The wedding itself was a testament to their shared interests: Good music, good beer, and good friends.
Downton Band MD, Roland Wright, inspired by a recent triumph in the recording world, performed “Trumpet Tune” Purcell (arr. R Wright) for the entry of the bride. An admirable performance only mildly hampered by a mild attack of creeping arthritis in his fingers and left moustache.
We hope the following photomontage will reflect the true nature of Fred & Rachael’s happy event.
